I love travelling alone. I love the joy and sense of freedom it gives me. But one night in a tapas bar, sitting at my table for one, my eyes locked on a group of people who were deep in conversation and full of laughter. This, I thought, is the one thing missing from my trip; I have no one to share my experiences with. No one to laugh with about how something got lost in translation. No one to tell about the delicious street food I had for lunch. No one to clink a glass with at the end of another fantastic day exploring an unfamiliar place.
Never one to sit around and miss out, I immediately started researching group travel for those going it alone. I noticed a gap in the market for people like me — thirty-something, can’t find travel buddies (most of my friends are married with children so find it difficult to get away), enjoys deep and meaningful travel but loves to have a laugh and share stories and experiences with like-minded people. Oh, and no longer wants to share a bunk in a hostel (I like a higher thread-count nowadays).
