Day one cruising the barge and our very first lock.
Thankfully, Billy had plenty of experience and kept us all on the right track.
Then it was my turn at the helm...
Within minutes, I gently introduced the barge to the riverbank. 🤦‍♀️ #dayinmylife
Lesson learned: barges don`t do quick corrections. Every movement takes time, so slow and steady really does win the race.
First lock ✔️ First bump ✔️ Nobody fell in ✔️
And to finish the day? A beautiful rainbow over the canal. 🌈 I`d say that`s a pretty good first day.

No fences. No perfectly cut lawn. Just peaceful waters, birdsong, passing boats, and nature changing with the seasons.
Moving onto a barge wasn`t just about changing where I lived it changed how I live.
I`ve learned to slow down, appreciate the little things, and realise that home isn`t about how much space you have... it`s about how a place makes you feel.
Some mornings, this walk is exactly the reset I need before the day begins.

I swapped my parents’ house for a 60ft barge… and people thought I’d completely lost it. 🚤😳

No garden.
No spare bedroom.
No “normal” life.

Just a tiny floating home… and a completely different way of living.
But here’s what I gained instead:
✨ Freedom I didn’t know I was missing
✨ Simplicity that cleared my head
✨ A new view out of every window, every single day

It wasn’t always easy. I had to learn a lot like quick showers 🚿 so I don`t run out of water, how to actually move this huge 60ft of pure steel and so much more.
But honestly? It’s become one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Because sometimes the biggest life upgrades don’t come from more space… they come from a braver choice. That`s also included cleaning out my wardrobe and getting rid of all the stuff we accumulate over the years that we don`t need.

Came back to Valencia after 2 months. The ceiling came down. The air conditioning decided to throw an absolute tantrum making noises I can only describe as a small angry animal trapped inside a washing machine. And then… I pulled back the covers.
The mattress. The bed. The brand new bed frame I paid a fortune for. Soaked.
Not damp. Soaked.
The apartment didn`t just miss me. It completely fell apart without me. Dramatic doesn`t cover it. 😂
And yet here I am. Window open. Valencia sunshine streaming in. Already forgetting how annoyed I was.
Two homes. Double the chaos. Wouldn`t change it for a single second. 🧡🌊

Living between a barge in Ireland and an apartment in Valencia sounds like a dream and it is but sometimes the dream hands you a dustpan and a confused look on your face wondering where exactly to even start.

The apartment basically threw a tantrum. Fair enough. I`d probably do the same.
But here`s the thing. I swept up the mess, opened the window, heard the sounds of Valencia outside and that was it. Home. Worth every complicated, chaotic, ceiling-falling-down moment of it.
